Privacy policy

BarIQ helps you work out which cocktails you can make from the bottles you have. This policy explains what we collect when you use it, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, a password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in readable form), an optional display name and social link, and the time you confirmed you are 21 or older.
- Your bar and favorites: the ingredients you mark as owned or in stock, your spirit-type and category choices, and the cocktails you favorite.
- Recipes you create: the name, ingredients, instructions and other details you enter.
- Reports: if you report a recipe, the recipe, your account and the reason you give.
- Security records: login and sign-up attempts, with the email address and IP address involved. These are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
- Technical records: server error logs, which can include your IP address. They are kept for troubleshooting.
Why we use it
To run your account, match cocktails to your bar, keep your favorites, send account emails (confirming your address, resetting your password), protect the service from abuse, and fix problems.
Cookies
BarIQ uses one session cookie. It keeps you logged in and protects forms against cross-site attacks. It is needed for the site to work, so there is no opt-out. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Who we share it with
- Hosting: our web host stores the site and database.
- Email: account emails are sent through the host's mail service.
- Fonts: Google Fonts is loaded from Google's servers, which receives your IP address.
We don't sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Account data stays while your account exists. Email links expire within 60 minutes (password reset) or 24 hours (email confirmation). Security records are deleted after 24 hours.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile. This permanently removes your account, email, password, bar, favorites and reports. Recipes you created stay on BarIQ so other people's bars keep working, but they no longer show your name.
Your choices
You can view and change your name and social link on your profile, and delete your account there. For anything else, contact us at contact@mybar-iq.com.
Age
BarIQ is for people aged 21 or older. You confirm your age when you create an account. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 21, and we delete an account if we learn it belongs to someone younger.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
